...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Nov. 2nd! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!

And Mrs. Hott wants to share this interview that she made for Warm Springs intermediate School. We hope you enjoy it!  Meet Ms. Joann King! Ms. King works in our Tax Office, at the Morgan County Courthouse!  Maybe some of you have been there with your parents when they went to pay taxes?  Ms. King meets many citizens of Morgan County.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott:

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Talkin' Tuesday - Oct, 30th 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, October 30th!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima where we will get to meet Meet Mrs. Lesan Lucas, teacher from our Widmyer Elementary family....LOOK!

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our self.

Here is what Mrs. Sheima wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"What is your least favorite food?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your least favorite food is, I want you to also include WHY it is your least favorite food.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Sheima.  My least favorite food is onions because, well...just SMELL them:

Eeeewe... I do not like how they sound when I chew them, sounds so gross to me! BUT, want to know something cool?! Even though I do not like to eat onions, I will try them prepared different ways.  Who knows?  Maybe someday I can learn to like them! And, I learned that when I give things a chance, I may be surprised.

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR least favorite food and why!

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page.  Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, or Mrs. Sheima by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?"

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about which students illustrate positive hard work and the importance of thanking those pushing us to work hard(er) - like our friends and teachers:

Let's talk about it.

Discuss which brother showed a Positive Thought?
What are some frustrations the brothers shared?

Who shows a Positive Action?
Why do the boys feel positive?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to help you work hard. What did he/she do?

"Don't ever tell me there's something you can't do?"  Who said that?  What do you think the dad meant?

Today, Mrs. Sheima wants you to work hard and "build that wall"!

* "having positive choices on a regular basis that promote wellness"

Having healthy habits.  What does that look like?
Watch today's video...

I'm not too sure what that yellow walking "go, go, go" thing was! Any ideas?  Maybe a banana?  Hmmmm...but let's talk about Healthy Habits; because Positive Actions want us all to be happy, healthy, and successful.  Now, let's talk!

This video focuses on three areas that are important for Healthy Habits.  Can you tell your teacher what they were and what you noticed in this video?
food
hygene
sport/exercise

Now, let's answer these questions:

1)  Who had a positive thought?

2)  Which person did a positive action?

3)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

4)  What Healthy Habits do you have?

5)  What Healthy Habits can you improve on?

At home, families can sometimes be too pre-occupied with stuff to do that they just do not slow down to LISTEN to each other.  When we do other activities than staring at cell phones, watching tv, or playing video games, we can have positive high-quality relationships with family members

Now, let's talk!  First, tell your teacher what happened in this video. Then, answer these questions:

1)  Who had a positive thought?

2)  Who did a positive action?

3)  Who has positive feelings at the end of this video?

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Oct. 18th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, around Widmyer Elementary School, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:
EQUALITY

Tell your teacher what you think the word "EQUALITY" means.
* "social fairness or justice"
* "state of being the same"
* "every person has the same value"
"Equality is the idea that all people are equal, regardless of age, gender, orientation, ethnicity, race, disability, or religious background."

Having equality.  What does that mean?   Watch today's video and listen to some students talk about "equality"...

Now, let's talk!  Let's all answer those questions too!
1)  What is equality?

2)  Should all people be equal?

3)  What should happen to people who don't treat others equally?

4)  Do you think that a "bully" feels equal to other students?
Why do you think a bully is a bully?

5)  If you see a bully, what can you do or say?

Take a look at the billboard below.  What do you think it means?

Reaching Out - Value Video "V"ednesday

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Oct. 17th! On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video "Vednesdays" when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring wildcat community of students at Widmyer Elementary School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they REACH OUT to be kind.  When we reach out, or make an effort to be positive to another person with kindness, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about which students illustrate positive ways to REACH OUT:

Let's talk about it.

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

Which students showed a Negative Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to REACH OUT to you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Sheima wants you to do a Positive Action too!  If each one of us at school did just one Positive Action, we would reach out to 400 other people in Morgan County!  So, how can YOU reach out to someone today.

I want each of you to think of someone YOU want to reach out to.  Know who it is?  A friend, parent, someone sad on the bus? Raise your hand when you have thought of someone to reach out to today.

Now, what can YOU do to reach out?  REACHING OUT is "to offer help or assistance" to another person. Maybe you can smile at someone!  Or, maybe you can help a friend with homework; read a book to your sibling; help mom and dad with dishes tonight;
What will you do today?

Go do it!

Want to know something pretty positive?  Even though Mr. Harmison did not like school many years ago, he continued to work hard and even went to school many more years to become a lawyer to help our community.

Maybe some of you feel that there are times when you don't like school either?  Is that so?  Well.... some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!  Just like Mr. Harmison!

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

Purpose - Oct 11, 2018 Raising the Roof

on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Oct. 11th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

PURPOSE

Tell your teacher what you think the word "PURPOSE" means.

"the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists"

Purpose.  What does "purpose" look like?
Watch this video:

This stirring anthem from Garth Brooks combined with poignant images from around our planet encourages, inspires and challenges each one of us to get involved with people’s needs both close to home and around the world. “Do Your Part” is a personal appeal to make a difference in our communities at a time of great need, which is also a time of opportunity.

Each student in this school is unique, right?  That means that each one of YOU have a unique PURPOSE for your life. And, by participating in Positive Actions, it helps us all to discover those positive thoughts, which leads to actions, and good feelings about why we are here and at school!

Think about a positive PURPOSE you have here at school and share this with your teacher. (to try our best, to help others) How can you "do your part" to have a great Community of Wildcats?

Now, think about a positive PURPOSE for you when you are home with your family.  Do you help mom and dad?  Care for pets?  How can you "do your part" to have positive feelings at home?

Finally, think about this: What do I need to do in school to help me with whatever my PURPOSE is in the future?  (study, do homework, get along with others...)

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Widmyer Elementary School, we all have positive PURPOSE for...

YOU!

ENCOURAGEMENT - Oct 10, 2018 Value Video "V"ednesdays

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Oct. 10th! On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video "Vednesdays" when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring wildcat community of students at Widmyer Elementary School.

Today's video takes a look at a students who are positive when they practice ENCOURAGEMENT.  When we ENCOURAGE others, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we are receiving ENCOURAGEMENT.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO "VEDNESDAY", and talk about who illustrates encouragement:

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss which person showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

Did you hear some words of encouragement?  What were they? (Don't stop, keep going,...)

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has made an effort to encourage you. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Sheima wants you to do a Positive Action too!
Encourage each other!

And remember this....

Talkin Tuesdays - Oct 9, 18

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, October 9th!!

Sheima where we will get to meet Mrs. Shives, a 2nd grade teacher to the Widmyer Elementary School family:

So, for our first "Talk It Out," we will start with something easy...I want you all to carefully think and answer this really supper hard question.  Are you ready?

"What is your favorite color?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite color is, I want you to also include WHY you like that color.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Sheima.  My favorite color is BLUE because (oh my goodness, I LOVE BLUE...let's see...) my favorite color is BLUE because it reminds me of the sky and the sea from the city where I grow up.  Here is what it looks like:

Beach Monsul, San José, Almería, Spain.
Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite color and why!

It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!
