Fun Friday Community wildcats... that CARE!!! On Jan. 11, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, January 11th! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!

Meet Mrs. Nikki Cowles!!

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima.

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

Here are a few questions for you:
1)  Think about someone in your family.  Tell your teacher one Positive Action that person did recently.
2)  Now, think about someone here in our school community.  What is one Positive Action you saw that you liked?  Next, be sure to tell that person "thanks!" for being Positive!
3)  And, think about someone from your neighborhood or community.  What Positive Action did you see that person do?
(Share answers with each other.)

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule because changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

DIVERSITY Jan. 10, 2019 - Raise the Roof...

...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Jan. 10th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

DIVERSITY

Tell your teacher what you think the words "DIVERSITY" means.
"variety, or a range of many different people from different places"

DIVERSITY.  What does "DIVERSITY" look like?  It is diversity that makes our big world beautiful, filled with people from many different countries, all unique and wonderfully made!  Watch this video:

We live in a great big beautiful world full of people, all "diverse", coming from different places, ALL beautiful and unique.

This classroom is diverse.  Think about it.  Talk about the unique differences you see here at school.  When we accept each other's differences, we can learn to cooperate better and treat others with care.  Many times, kids bully others just because they are different than themselves.
Start today - instead of being afraid of our differences, let's accept and celebrate them!  Celebrate Diversity!
And remember, it is also important to know that here at Widmyer Elementary School, we are all part of a "wildcat community" where positive actions start with...

YOU!

Wildcats that celebrate DIVERSITY

IMAGINE - Video Vlog "Vednesday"

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Jan. 9th!  On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring wildcat community of students at Widmyer Elementary School.

Today's video takes a look at people who are positive when they IMAGINE.  When we recognize and encourage imagination in our world, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.  And, we also have positive feelings when we IMAGINE.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about who illustrates imagination :

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss who showed a Positive Thought?

Who shows a Positive Action?

What is the Positive Feeling you have when you see this video?

Now, think of a person who you know that has an imagination. What did he/she do?

Today, Mrs. Sheima wants you to do a Positive Action too!  Imagine YOUR possibilities...Try it!

Talkin' Tuesdays - Jan. 8, 2019

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!
Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!

Today is TEACHER TALKIN TUESDAY where we see that our school family of teachers, staff, and administrators care
about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School!

And, where we will take a Positive moment each week to
"Talk It Out"
and discuss important student issues.

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, January 8, 2019!! For each "Teacher Talkin' Tuesday" in Positive Actions, we will meet a new member of our school family community that cares about YOU!

As we listen to our school family share their dreams, how hard they worked/studied, when they were little, stories of their life, and how Positive Actions helped them, we learn a little more about each other.  Discovering about each other's life helps us to understand why and how we become who we are.

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima where we will get to meet Ms. Smailes, teacher from our Widmyer Elementary school family:

YOUR student assets are what will help you succeed here at school and as you grow up.  When we learn more about our teachers and staff, it helps to create a caring school climate, which is an essential external developmental asset.

So, guess what that means?!  Your teachers also want to learn more about YOU too!  For Positive Actions each Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to share something new about yourself with your teacher and classmates.  It is "Talk It Out Time!"  Each week, we will share one brand spanking new thing about our selves.

Here is what Mrs. Sheima wants you to do each week.  I will give you a completely different topic, and you will share with your teacher and friends something brand new or unknown about yourself!  Just watch the discoveries...we may find that someone in our class we don't know very well may have something in common with us!  Or, we may be completely and crazily different.  And, guess what?!...That is OK!  It is a Positive Action to learn about our community's likes and respect each other's differences.

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"Who is your favorite way to travel (mode of transportation)?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  But once you have decided what your favorite way to travel is, I want you to also include WHY it is your favorite.

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Sheima.  My favorite way to travel is on an airplane and ship because not only the airplane is it the fastest way to go the farthest, I really like seeing the earth from the sky.  In fact, when I was little, I was traveling from spain to Algeria and Morocco in the ship and was wonderful to see the sea and the dolphins. Was amazing.

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite way to travel and why!  Is it plane, train, or automobile?  Maybe you enjoy walking on foot?  Riding a bike?  What about a scooter?  Let's discover...

That was awesome too!  You ALL just did a positive action by sharing something about yourself.  It is positive because it helps us to better understand each other.

To close, we will finish Talkin Tuesdays with a chance for you to share something important with your teacher.  Is there something you feel like "if my teacher only knew...." it would help her/him understand you better?  What is new this week you can tell your teacher?  For example, if my teacher knew how hard I tried or I really did do my best on our spelling words, you may feel more positive!  Or, if my teacher only knew why I was late again, maybe she/he can help me, etc.

In your Positive Action folder, you will find a Talk It Out Tuesday page. Here, write one thing down you wish your teacher knew about your week.  Sometimes it helps to get our thoughts together when we write it down.  And, if you need to talk later, just ask your teacher, parent, friend, or Mrs. Sheima by saying "May I please share a "talk it out" with you?""

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

Meet Mrs. Melanie Shambaugh.

Some days are hard; but with Positive Thoughts, Actions, and Feelings, YOU can make choices to help you and others have a Positive future!

ROLE MODEL Jan. 3, 2019 - Raise the Roof....

...on Student Assets,
where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

"WooHoo....It's time for...
Positive ACTIONS!"

A BIG Welcome Back to our school family!  Mrs. Sheima hopes you ALL had a "paw"sitive holiday break!  I am super excited to return for 2019 with everyone here on our Community Positive Action Vlogcasts! I missed you guys so much!  So...what did YOU do since we talked last?

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Jan. 3rd! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word(s):

ROLE MODELS

Tell your teacher what you think the words "ROLE MODEL" means.
"a person looked to by others as a positive example to be imitated or copied"

ROLE MODELS.  What do "ROLE MODELS look like?  Raise your hand and tell your teacher someone who is a role model.  Maybe if you have a tutor helping you with Social Studies Fair projects, older students are also great role models!  Parent's and other adults in a student's family, as well as nonfamily adults, modeling positive responsible behavior are our role models.

Want to know something pretty cool?  Look around the classroom.  Your school community is also full of great role models too!  Friends and classmates that exhibit Positive Actions are "PAW"some role models.

YOU, too, can be a ROLE MODEL when you...
* cooperate with classmates,
*respect others,
*are responsible,
*practice safety,
*decide not to bicker, pick, or whine!

Can you think of more? The world is full of great role models.  Watch this video:

Role Models can be found all around us.  Our homes, school, and community are filled with people who care about us and those we look up to as good examples.  Guess who my ROLE MODEL is... Do you know Michael J. Fox?  He has been in many movies.  He has a illness has called Parkinson's Disease.  He is a Role Model because, even though he has a neurological (brain) disorder, he tries hard to keep positive and try to find a way to cure Parkinson's.
Now, think about someone you look up to.  Tell your teacher who YOUR role model is and why you look up to them.

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Widmyer Elementary School, we are all part of a "wildcat community" where positive actions start with...

YOU!

Fun Friday Community wildcats... that CARE!!! - Dec. 21, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 21st! Today, we have a special GIFT!  Ms. Hott and I have discovered some valuable treasures at Widmyer Elementary School....YOU!  And, since it is a Positive Action to GIFT our unique and wonderfully made PAWsitive Actions, we have a special Fun Friday treat for our vlogcast today from our previous students, a
Holiday "E" Card
from WES Positive Action Wildcats!

Remember this:
YOU can do a POSITIVE ACTION today!  You ALL are unique and wonderfully made; so, share YOUR positive actions with someone - especially during this holiday season!  And guess what....it doesn't cost a dime! You don't need money to give a gift to someone else.  Want to know what gift YOU can give?.... you can do a POSITIVE ACTION!  Show someone you care with a something as simple as a smile, a respectful attitude, a gesture of gratitude, or being a caring friend!

It's free, a positive action,....and, it is contagious!  So, start right now to change the world by making positive choices for your physical and intellectual well-being AND your example will encourage others, impress friends and classmates, and launch you into a positive future!

I promise!

So, tell your teacher what positive action or "GIFT" you will share during the holidays.  Think of someone to say "Happy Holidays" to in your home, school, or community.  Sharing a happy greeting is a positive action.  Make a special card from you.  Draw them a picture.  Fold another origami heart. (Instructions are here: Make a Paper Heart Then Share YOUR Gift)

Next, want to know what my favorite gift is this season....each.of.YOU!

Remember, it is a Positive Action to follow the Golden Rule; so, Mrs. Sheima wants you to remember that over holiday break, we need to treat others kindly and with respect.

Changing the world starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

YOU!

See you back here in 2019!

Motivation on Dec. 20, 2018 - Raise the Roof....

...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 20th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

MOTIVATION

Tell your teacher what you think the word "MOTIVATION" means.
"the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way"
"general desire or willingness of someone to do something"

MOTIVATION.  What does "motivation" looks like?  If we look with positive hearts, we may discover that with MOTIVATION, we can ACHIEVE our goals!  Achievement Motivation is when students strive to do well in school and life.  Watch this video:

This video was intended to reach out to all of us who are not so athletically minded. Mrs. Sheima was never very motivated at sports either!

No matter what your talent is, it is important and worth developing. For adults, parents and mentors, it's important to help young people search for that particular ability, which may not be so obvious at first. But, with the support of friends, classmates, teachers, and families, we can begin with a "positive thought" and try new things.

It is always ok to try! I love how this mom keeps on offering opportunities for her son.  And, when he expresses his appreciation, my mom heart melts!

Think of someone who helps you.  Who "MOTIVATES" you to try things?  Today, be sure to express appreciation for their continued effort to support all your success -- and failures too!

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Widmyer Elementary School, we are all part of a "wildcat community" where great MOTIVATION starts with...

YOU!

Today is VALUE VIDEO "V"EDNESDAY!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 19th!! On Wednesdays, we will be examining Value Video Vednesdays when we will take a look at positive values to help us grow into a caring wildcat community of students at Widmyer Elementary  School.

Today's video takes a look at a students (and adults) who are positive when they act with GRATITUDE.  What does that mean?  Gratitude is expressing thanks to someone.  When we use GRATITUDE, we are making positive choices to become students with good moral and ethical qualities, helping us to achieve personal excellence.

Watch today's VALUE VIDEO VEDNESDAY, and talk about who is showing gratitude:

Let's talk about it.  Were you surprised?  Why?

Discuss which student showed a Positive Thought?

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Sheima.  My favorite sports team is Fútbol Club Barcelona, EL BARÇA! Even though I really don't watch soccer other than the half time shows, the FC Barcelona are my favorite because my favorite city in Spain is Barcelona and I think they are the best soccer time ever!
They work hard and they have good attitude even if the lost some game, because they say they learn with each game.

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us YOUR favorite sports and why!

So, for today's "Talk It Out," are you ready?  Here is our discovery question:

"Who is your family?"

Wait, that's not so hard, right?  Today, we will share about our families.  For example, how many brothers and sisters do you have?

I'll go first.  Hi!  My name is Mrs. Sheima.  In my family, we have three people.  Pedro or Peter (my adorable hubby) and I am a mother of a wonderful baby girl, Ítaca.

Here we all are:

Sheima, Pedro and Ítaca running close to the Potomac River.

When I was little, my family was my parents, i don't have brothers or sister. Was boring when I was little I always wanted to have siblings but that is ok.

Pretty awesome, right?  Now, it's YOUR turn!  When you are ready to share, raise your hand then tell us about YOUR family!  Do you have brothers and sisters?  Families come in all shapes and sizes, and each are beautiful and wonderfully made!

Remember, sometimes our negative thoughts can turn positive just by telling or sharing with another person!  It is a Positive Action to "peacefully resolve our conflicts" too with others at home, school, and our community.  "Talking it out" starts with one student at a time...and that is.....

Makin' Music Mondays - Dec. 10, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Welcome to Positive Actions Community Character Vlogs!  Today is December 10th!!!

Mrs. Sheima is SUPER excited to share Positive Actions with Morgan County students because today, and each Monday, is "Makin' Music Mondays!"

Do YOU know that "the way we think about ourselves controls how happy, healthy, and successful we will be"?  In Positive Actions this year, we will discover that we each have beautiful, unique characteristics that are all important and valuable to our Wildcat Community, here, at school, and at home.

In our Positive Actions classroom for this week, we will continue to discuss our Positive Actions for our Physical and Intellectual Well-Being.

Because each of YOU are wonderfully made, you ALL have a unique VALUABLE gift to share with the world...YOU!  By our positive choices, we are keeping these gifts healthy and happy...YOU!  In the Positive Action Classroom, we will be making unique gifts to share with our home, school, and community! We will be talking about how the most valuable gifts to give don't cost a dime!

Your POSITIVE ACTIONS are gifts!

For today's vlogcast, we will see our positive action song...

Yay!  Thanks for listening!  And, if time today, dance again and try to sing along....

SELF ESTEEM for Dec. 13, 2018- Raise the Roof

...on student assets!
Where ALL students are UNIQUE and WONDERFULLY MADE!

Today is Raising Student Assets Thursday!

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, Dec. 13th! As we continue to improve our positive thoughts, actions and feelings, today we will take a look at raising student assets and a super important positive action word:

SELF-ESTEEM

Tell your teacher what you think the word "SELF-ESTEEM" means.
"confidence in one's own worth or abilities, self-respect"
"when you like and are proud of the person that you are and the unique qualities you have"

SELF-ESTEEM.  What does "self-esteem" looks like?  If we look with positive hearts, we may discover that with SELF-ESTEEM, we can be positive proud of all our uniqueness!  Each of you are unique and valuable...SELF-ESTEEM is that positive feeling when YOU believe it too.  Watch this video:

Let's take a look at this video.  It looks like a news story about a little girl, right?! What unique quality did the she have?  And, how did she feel about her unique quality?  Was she sad or angry?  How did the dad help other children have positive self-esteem about different aspects of themselves?

Finally, take a look at this guy.  He had some crazy hair too! Do you know who this is?  And, what do you think about his self-esteem.

And remember, it is also important to know that here at Warm Springs Intermediate School, we are all part of a "cougar community" where great SELF-ESTEEM starts with...

YOU!

Fun Friday Community wildcats... that CARE!!! - Dic. 7, 2018

...where ALL students are UNIQUE and Wonderfully Made!

Time for POSITIVE ACTIONS!
Today is FUN FRIDAY where we see that our community cares about the students at
Widmyer Elementary School

I am so excited to be back for Positive Actions today, December 7th! Each Fun Friday in Positive Actions, we will meet a new friend in our community that cares about YOU!

Here is today's video vlog from Mrs. Hott and Mrs. Sheima.

We want to share this interview. We hope you enjoy it!  Meet Meet Mrs. Lara Omps.

YOU!
